Who needs paediatric first aid training?
Anyone working with infants and young children in an early years setting: nursery staff, childminders, pre school and reception staff, nannies and holiday club leaders.
The EYFS statutory framework sets how many paediatric first aiders a setting must have on site and on outings, so the number you need comes from the framework rather than from us.
This course is for:
- Nursery and pre school practitioners in Carlisle and across Cumbria
- Registered childminders and their assistants
- School staff working with early years children
- Nannies, au pairs and holiday club staff
- Parents and grandparents who want the full qualification rather than an awareness session
What does the EYFS framework require?
Early years providers must have paediatric first aid cover available at all times children are present, and the training has to meet the criteria set out in Annex A of the statutory framework.
This course is built against those criteria.
The certificate lasts three years, so settings usually stagger renewals to avoid losing cover all at once.
Benedict's Law
Schools and settings should also be aware of the forthcoming allergy safety guidance, expected to place new duties on schools around allergy awareness and adrenaline auto injectors. You can book your allergy safety training course here.
What does the paediatric first aid course cover?
Everything a paediatric first aider needs to act in the first few minutes, from an unresponsive infant to a severe allergic reaction.
Clinical content follows Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines 2025, so the CPR and defibrillator technique is current.
