Who needs the FAW requalification course?
Anyone holding a First Aid at Work certificate that is coming up to its three year expiry.
Book it in the months before the date on the certificate, not after. It is the same course whether you first qualified with us or elsewhere, as long as the original certificate is a full FAW and still in date.
This course is for:
- Workplace first aiders renewing an in date FAW certificate
- First aiders on high risk sites such as construction, manufacturing and engineering
- First aiders in low risk workplaces who originally sat the full three day course
- Employers keeping site first aid cover current without losing three days per person
- First aiders who qualified elsewhere (previously held an accredited or regulated certificate) are also accepted onto the requalification.
If your certificate has already expired, you get one month post that to requalify. Otherwise you need to take the full three day First Aid at Work (FAW) course again.
If you originally sat the one day EFAW course, this is not the renewal you need. Retake Emergency First Aid at Work instead.
What does the FAW requalification cover?
It revisits the full First Aid at Work syllabus in condensed form and reassesses your practical skills, with the CPR and defibrillator content brought up to Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines 2025.
The two days work through unresponsive casualties and CPR, the major medical emergencies, serious injuries, and wounds and burns.
The complete syllabus is on the First Aid at Work course page.
Book the requalification before the expiry date on your current certificate. HSE guidance suggests renewing within the last few months of the three years, so there is no gap in your cover.
Miss the date and the shorter route is no longer available to you. There is no grace period that keeps the two day option open once the certificate has lapsed.
